100 TUNESdays

This coming Tuesday marks the release of the 100th episode of 'Amiga musicdisk TUNESday' which is a series I've been running on my YouTube channel for the last couple of years. 

If you're unaware of what that channel is, it's a collection of Amiga demoscene recordings, I aim for one video per day with a musicdisk every Tuesday. 

Before we reach that 100 milestone, I thought I'd pick 5 TUNESday episodes and share them in this post and talk about why I find them noteworthy. A musicdisk is typically a single 880KB Amiga disk containing a number of tracks, some way to select them and usually some sort of graphical demonstration, often synced to the music.

In no particular order at all, here are my picks: 

#28 Abyss - DisIsSid #2

Fantastic pseudo C64-like graphics with SID inspired music. The standout tune is DisIsSid2-Theme - absolutely fantastic, I've got it on now as I write this. Abyss are known for their AHX (Abyss' Highest eXperience) format. (AHX) 

#81 Sceptic - Chipmania #13

Always fantastic disks from Sceptic, I think they're the most featured group in the TUNESday playlist - later editions of their Chipmania series treated the disk like a magazine so you get to read party reports, invitations and ads from other groups whilst bopping to the fantastic chiptune selections - picking anything from Sceptic on this playlist guarantees you a good time. 

#75 Bass Music Disk 002

This one is an exercise in pure excess - we're treated to all the typical intro-tropes, copper shades, sinewave scrollers and more colours than you can shake a stick at. And musically proving that the Amiga is as comfortable and capable of banging out techno as it is blissed out 0xy-arpeggio-fuelled chiptunes. 

#19 Credo & Echel - Pandemonium

This one gets a mention because of the astounding interface, just look at it! An oversized and automatically scrolling demonic masterpiece! 

#25 Defiance - Imaginations

Another magazine/musicdisk combo but also featuring a decent selection of intro effects etc. The authors know what we like and it's really well executed. 

So that's my quick roundup of some of my favourite disks but to tell the truth, if I was writing this tomorrow, you'd probably see a different list.
